Gérard Depardieu may not have made gold; but toast (bread) will be a valuable commodity by 2010-2012.

Inflation, shortage of farm land and shortage of seed will prove it true.

Fascinating — the only point on which history might disagree is how toast got its name. I’m thinking that rather than being named after the princess, when Depardieu saw that it wasn’t gold coming out of his invention, he thought, “Hoo, boy, I’m toast!” Then he thought, “What a jam I’m in! -- and a new breakfast staple was born. (Until it was remembered that he and his toast were French, when the jam got ditched in favor of powdered sugar & syrup.)

Another point of possible interest: You’ll never guess what I just happened to be eating with my breakfast as I was reading the story! (And that’s not made up.) No jam, though -- I'm a low-carbie. However, I was drinking light coffee -- maybe I'm just a big milquetoast.

Anyway, if someone ever carries on Depardieu's work, let me know if they succeed; I'll buy a couple loaves of bread and chuck my current portfolio! Maybe they were onto something in the 60s when they started calling money "bread" . . .

I knew it! For several years now I was trying to find the original creating of the toaster, and I believe I am onto something started in the early mesozoic era, but you're probably right. The story about Gerry Depardoodoo (spelling?) seems plausible though.
