Dr. Toast Live @ Toast & Tea

Monday, February 25th, 2008

My thanks to Melvin Priester for hosting this listening party for my new music! Melvin says:

“A good number of my favorite Burning Man stories now start like this, ‘I was hanging out in our dome and then Dr. Toast started playing…’ Simply put, lying on fuzzy gymmats, listening to Dr. Toast play live, watching cool visuals on a tricked out system is one of my favorite things in the world. So, in celebration of Dr. Toast’s forthcoming new CD, The Wave Function, and also my impending departure for Europe and South America (leaving SF for A WHILE March 12), we will be recreating that set-up, sans dust, on March 6 from 8:30 to 11 p.m. @ the amazing loft of the man who has provided both the cush and the sound behind so many of my favorite burning man experiences.”

WHAT: Dr. Toast Listening Party. WHEN: Thursday, March 6, 2008, 8:30 - 11:00 p.m. (Toast starts playing a little after 9). WHERE: 865 Florida St., Space 2. VISUALS: MC Um Amel (UCSC Digital Arts/New Media). SOUND: Periphony Systems. DAMAGE: $10, in advance, via paypal to mpriester@gmail.com

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

Miracle toast? From the article: “Excitement is growing in the Northern England town of Huddlesfield following the news that a local man saw an image of the big-bang in a piece of toast. Atheist Donald Chapman, 36, told local newspaper The Huddlesfield Express that he was sitting down to eat breakfast when an unusual toast pattern caught his eye…”

Dr. Toast Live @ Dirty

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

Friday, February 22, 2008 - My thanks to False Profit’s public relations agency for fabricating this choice quote from me: Reached for comment waterskiing in Dubai, James Reynolds, False Profit’s Executive VP of Whomptronics offered this bit of advice: “We’re unabashedly suggesting all investors should fill out their portfolios with a selection of DIRTY beats, funked-up breaks, seismic wobbles, gritty textures and filthy, nasty, sexed-up basslines, as every player in this dynamic segment is poised to thrive mightily.” 10pm, $10, DNA Lounge - 375 11th St @ Harrison, San Francisco.

The Future of Toasting

Friday, February 1st, 2008

An anonymous reader sent me this link to a video titled “My Incredibly Cool Toaster“. It is truly a thing of beauty. The bread is brought gracefully into the machine’s warm belly, then two gleaming chrome doors come gliding in silently from the sides to create an evanescent toasting sanctuary. The video’s accompanying soundtrack is “The Blue Danube Waltz” by Johann Strauss Jr., which evokes the famous space station rendezvous scene from Stanley Kubrik’s “2001: A Space Odyssey“.

This undoubtedly is how toast will be made by our future benevolent robot overlords.
